Your window film is installed with a slip solution of soap and water, and it takes time for that moisture to fully evaporate and the adhesive to lock down. In Tampa Bay's heat the cure is faster than in cooler climates, but humidity can still stretch it out. Here's how to treat brand-new tint for the first two weeks.
Leave your windows up
Don't roll the tinted windows down for at least three to four days — and closer to a week if the weather has been cool or overcast. Lowering the glass before the adhesive sets can drag the film, lift an edge, or crease it permanently.
Haze, streaks and small water pockets are normal
For the first days to weeks you may see a milky haze, faint streaks, or small water bubbles trapped between the film and the glass. This is curing moisture, not a defect. As the film dries in the sun it clears up on its own. Resist the urge to press or squeegee the pockets — you can distort the film.
Wait to clean the inside glass
Give the film about two weeks (30 days is safest) before cleaning the interior side. After that, use a soft microfiber towel and an ammonia-free glass cleaner — ammonia breaks down film over time and can cause purpling. Spray the towel, not the glass, so cleaner doesn't wick into the edges.
Don't pick at the edges
The film stops a hair short of the edge of the glass by design so it can seal cleanly. That thin border is not "peeling." Picking at it or running a fingernail along it is the fastest way to start a lift.
Expect a few quirks near defroster lines
On rear windows with raised defroster grid lines or a dot-matrix border along the top, you may notice tiny contour gaps or a slightly bumpy look while the film beds down. These usually disappear as it cures. If they're still obvious after two weeks, let us take a look.
Park in the sun
Counterintuitive, but sunlight is what drives the cure. For the first week, park facing the sun when you can instead of always hunting for shade.
When to call us
